HJEM (HOME) is a sensory performance about the familiar feelings and the vulnerability of sharing a space with others. In a time marked by unrest, loneliness and division, our shared spaces – both physical and social – are under pressure. The performance explores our ability to live together with people who do not necessarily resemble us or whom we do not necessarily understand. Two people must learn to live together as closeness, distance, longing and irritation alternate in the space between them.

Is home a physical place? A feeling? Is home a person?

The performance is presented as Relaxed Theatre, with few rules and space for different ways of experiencing the performance. The audience can move around, take breaks or simply observe. HJEM aims to create a space where more people can feel welcome, and where the shared experience does not have to be the same for everyone.

HJEM is created by Kaosteater in co-production with Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium and in collaboration with playwright and stagedirector Regina Rex. The performance has been developed through conversations with local people, including visitors to Kirkens Korshær’s drop-in centre, Nybobakke Asylum Centre, Holstebro Church, and others in the city who have generously welcomed us into their spaces and shared their unique perspectives on home. Kaosteater specialises in creating experimental, accessible and socially engaged theatre, often in unconventional spaces. Regina Rex brings a poetic and conceptual dramatic language to the project, drawing on her own experiences as a nomadic artist, for whom ‘home’ has always been something fleeting and open to negotiation.

The performance premieres on 11 November 2026 at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium and will also be performed in Aarhus.
